India congratulates the UK court’s decision to reject Nirav Modi’s extradition application.
Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, said: “We applaud the UK High Court’s decision to reject the appeal against Nirav Modi’s extradition.
He declared, “We will continue with our efforts to bring Nirav Modi and other economic offenders to justice.”
According to the MEA, India has been assiduously seeking the extradition of economic fugitives so they may face the country’s judicial system.
The fugitive diamantaire had earlier on November 9 lost his London High Court plea against extradition to India.
Modi has the possibility of making more appeals in the UK and European courts, so the procedure to bring him back to stand trial in India is unlikely to be quick.
The decision states that “we are far from satisfied that Mr. Modi’s mental condition and the risk of suicide are such that it would be either unjust or oppressive to extradite him.” “Pulling these various strands together and weighing them in the balance so as to reach an overall evaluative judgment on the question raised by Section 91,” the ruling continues.
